Carousel 2005-one of the Best Ever

For those who might think the Peruvian Paso riders “are the ones who wear bed sheets” this show clearly told them otherwise. This year’s 2005 Carousel Charity Horse Show held on March 17-20 at WestWorld in Scottsdale, AZ clearly was one of the best ever. As there was a large hunter-jumper show scheduled at WestWorld at the same time, the Carousel show was allotted half of the space it normally has in the permanent barns. Fortunately thanks to our DSHA members and breed rep, Bill Chase, we were able to reserve 48 stalls in the barns. We were not only able to fill all 48 but used some more that were not needed by the other breeds. The Peruvian Paso division was approved by the Peruvian Paso Horse Registry Of North America (PPHRNA) and conferred a minimum of Double Points for PPHRNA Medallon de Plata, Medallon de Oro, and High Point Performance Horse Awards. Champions from this show are eligible to compete in their respective Championship Classes at the 2005 and 2006 National Shows.

As anyone who has ever put on a show knows sponsorship money is always hard to obtain. This year the Peruvian Paso division outdid itself, collecting a total of $2725.00 Thanks to Becky Chase for her hard work in soliciting sponsors. Our show could not have been the success it was without the generosity of our sponsors. Our gold sponsors were: Susie Levy of Bellissima Farms Intl. Inc., Bill and Becky Chase of Caballos de BBC, L.L.C., and Larry and Joy Redman of Rancho Chahuchu. Silver sponsors were: William Berman, and Mel and Elaine Dreyfuss of D Ranch. Our trophy and ribbon sponsors were: Gene Perlow of Black Mesa Horse Ranch, Copper State Peruvian Paso Club, Ben and Lori Goldberg, Kim Jacobs, Mary Jane McCrory of Rancho Chiripa, Nevin and Jenice McQuarrie of Cottonwood Crossing Farms, Bernie and Liz Potof of B.E.L. Peruvian Pasos, Diane Reid, Gail Gray, Kathy and David Russell of Palo Verde Bluffs, Julia Shepherd, Jean Sullivan of Lightning Bar Ranch, and Charlotte Dicke of Peruvian Classified. Our thanks to you all for your generosity.

With our gold sponsors we were able to secure two barn fronts in the first row of barns and one in the second row of barns. Our farms/ranches Caballos de BBC, L.L.C., Bellissima Farms Intl. Inc., and Rancho Chahuchu all did a beautiful job of decorating and displaying their farms, horses, and promotional literature on the breed. We owe our thanks to Peruvian Digest and Peruvian Classified who very generously gave us free magazines for all of the people wanting to know more about the breed.

This year in an effort to draw more of our out of state exhibitors we offered 23 Peruvian Paso classes. With opportunities for halter in hand (zootecnico-always popular as it is a halter class where no one has to run), breeding, gait, and performance classes, there was something for everybody. Dividing the breeding classes by sex (mares, geldings, and stallions ) and by age (4-6) and (7 and older) gave more horses an opportunity to compete in multiple divisions. Our versatility class gave spectators the opportunity to see the Peruvian Paso ridden in something besides show white attire, ponchos, and strictly Peruvian tack. With 39 Peruvian Pasos at the show we had some pretty big classes. Our stallions gait class had 10 entries, a feat that has not been seen in any show arena in Arizona for many years.

No show can succeed without exhibitors. Our exhibitors were from California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada. Congratulations to all of our exhibitors, trainers, and their horses: Susie Levy of Bellissima Farms Intl. Inc., Vilora Marshall, Mike Walker, Bill and Becky Chase of Caballos de BBC, L.L.C., Larry and Joy Redman of Rancho Chahuchu, Mel and Elaine Dreyfuss of D Ranch, Diane Bickford of Rancho Colorado, Mary Jane McCrory of Rancho Chiripa, Terry and Brian Jarchow of Rancho de la Florecita, Joy Gould of Hacienda Sosegado, Jorge Valenzuela of Valenzuela Training Center , Dr.William Berg and Linda Berg of Casa De Los Caballos, Louise Clarke, Barbara and James Alexander of Clear Creek Ranch, Juan and Teresa Garayar of Garayar Trainng Center, Dr. Pat Haight and Bill Haight, Liz and Bernie Potof of B.E.L. Peruvian Pasos, Oscar Campos, Stephanie Garafola, and Julia Shepherd. Great job everybody ! We really enjoyed having you and thank you so much for coming.

A special thanks to Della Noski for manning the in/out gate at the show. For all of our club members who were not able to exhibit but gave their support thank you. Carousel Show result Peruvian Paso Division are:

Our judge Kim Montee did a great job and showed the versatility of the breed when she asked for individual workouts in the versatility class. Our breed presentation was a rousing success - thanks to our horses and their owners Rayo de CZR ,owned and ridden by Liz Potof, RDS Tabernero owned and ridden by Larry Redman, JWF Aficion owned and ridden by Becky Chase, and SVS Lozano Dos owned by Mary Jane McCrory and ridden by Linda Garro*.

Thanks to all of our exhibitors and club members for your help in maintaining the Peruvian Paso Division in this highly visible, high quality show.
